About the area . . .

Bansko is the newest of Bulgaria's big three mountain resorts. The resort is currently subject of huge investment that is rapidly turning the town into a modern international winter sports venue. Within the last 10 years the town has began turning from a peaceful mountain village into the fastest growing ski destination in Europe. Surrounded by the spectacular Pirin, Rila and Rhodopi mountains, Bansko is a climatic mountain resort and the town is listed as one of UNESCO's World Heritage sites.

During recent years, multi-million Euro investment has contantly improved the ski areas, expanding and by drastically improving the slopes and lift systems. Furthermore, 80% of the pistes are supported by snow making machines, ensuring fresh snow throughout the ski season.

The efficiently secured ski runs are stretched over 70 km. 25 km of modern high-capacity lift infrastructure stands for comfort and minimal waiting times.

No need for anyone to have concerns about having the appropriate ski or board equipment on arrival – Hire cabins located at the lower and upper Gondola lift stations are well equipped with everything ski and snowboard fans may need - there thousands of pairs of skis and several hundred boards of all sizes to choose from.

After an adventurous day on the slopes, Bansko guests enjoy the local restaurants called the “Mehanas,” serving from traditional Bulgarian cuisine and drinks to international delights. Over forty "Mehanas" mostly situated around the centre, are among the most authentic, atmospheric and welcoming that you will ever encounter.

Drinking red wine in a traditional mehana while listening to native men in embroidered shirts sing loudly and passionately about Macedonian maidens is all very well, but occasionally you may yearn for a more conventional bar serving familiar drinks to the accompaniment of contemporary music.

To find this, you need look no further than JJ Murphy's, Bansko's first authentic Irish bar, located in the the ground floor of the apartment complex, providing great food, imported beers, sports, darts, free internet access, as well as a beer garden with bbq area.

The modern and spacious Lions pub serves a Full English breakfast all day as well as more familiar western cuisine. They have a full satellite package, so you be rest assured won't miss any of the important football, rugby or cricket matches.

Wine bars and pizzerias are on the increase and The Happy End and Sir Galahad's are also popular for international après-ski, while the Torino cabaret bar attracts weekend visitors from Sofia.

The contemporary town of Bansko is a unique mixture of old traditions and modern style, where new-built hotels and apartment blocks are separated from strong,18th and 19th century braced houses, lining narrow, stone-paved streets, by just several feet.

The uniquely designed Clock tower that dwarfs the town centre has accurately measured the time for over 150 years. The town offers one of the best and well functioning museum networks in Bulgaria.

There are over 120 cultural and historic monuments in and around Bansko including the world famous Rila monastery. Built in its present form between 1816 and 1846 the monastery was first created inthe 10th century as a refuge for hermits.

There are many different kinds of shops in Bansko - from the old, traditional gift and trinket shops to modern supermarkets,sports and clothes shops. You are also able to purchase popular branded clothing such as Von Dutch, McKenzie, Diesel,Levi, Adidas and Nike. Even though the town is gradually becoming more commercialised you will still find the price of most items extremely reasonable,

Such is the resorts versatility and adaptability tens of thousands of non ski enthusiasts enjoy the all year round activities of hunting, fishing, walking, mountain biking, alpine climbing, paragliding and sightseeing. The resort ingeniously re-invents itself for the summer months, where temperatures can reach the mid thirties.This list of activities is currently being expanded, so there will always be something to do.

For those who fancy a round of golf, the new Pirin Golf and Country Club is on the outskirts of Bansko within a 10 minute drive from the apartment.

The Pirin National Park provides the scenery of Bansko summer resort with a huge variety of marked mountain routes. The spectacular panoramic scenery is ideal for valley trips and pine forest walks. The powerful glowing sun, crystal clear air and the magnificent nature are the perfect ingredients for your spiritially liberating, healthy and enjoyable holiday.
